How much does bistro and string lighting cost in the DMV?

Bistro and string lighting in the DMV typically runs $500 to $5,000+, with most backyard and patio installs landing between $1,200 and $2,500. Final cost depends on run length, how many galvanized poles we set, and whether it's a permanent install or event lighting. Pricing always includes design, commercial-grade Edison bulbs, tensioned stainless cable, and clean power routing. Call (703) 951-5100 for a fast quote on patio bistro light installation anywhere in the DMV.

What is bistro lighting and how is it different from store-bought string lights?

Bistro lighting — also called cafe or string lighting — is a canopy of warm overhead bulbs strung across a patio, deck, backyard, or venue. Unlike a hardware-store kit that sags and fails in a season, Light DMV uses commercial-grade weatherproof Edison bulbs hung from aircraft-grade stainless cable so the lines stay tight and even. We've handled cafe and string light installation across Maryland, Virginia, and DC since 2021.

Do you install bistro lighting permanently or just for events?

Both. Light DMV does permanent, year-round backyard string light installation across the DMV — anchored to galvanized poles or your existing structure with tensioned stainless cable — and temporary event lighting we install and remove around your wedding, party, or corporate date. Permanent installs are owned, not rented; event lighting is priced for the day. Many homeowners in Arlington, Bethesda, and McLean choose a permanent patio install so the space is ready every night.

How do you keep bistro string lights from sagging?

The difference between a professional install and a DIY kit is the support system. Light DMV runs aircraft-grade stainless cable with turnbuckles and proper tensioning between solid anchor points, then hangs the Edison bulbs from the cable so they drape in a clean, even catenary curve instead of sagging unevenly. It's how our pergola lighting installation and open-patio runs across the DMV stay tight through wind, heat, and humidity year after year.

Can you install bistro lighting where there are no trees or posts to attach to?

Yes. For open patios and yards with nothing to attach to, Light DMV sets galvanized poles on proper footings or ground anchors engineered for DMV clay soil, giving us solid attachment points anywhere. This is the most common solution for backyard string light installation in the DMV — decks, pools, and patios with no trees or structure nearby. We design the pole layout so the canopy looks intentional, not improvised.

Do you offer wedding and event string lighting in the DMV?

Yes — Light DMV provides wedding and outdoor event lighting across the DMV, including bistro string lights for backyard weddings, tents, gardens, and reception spaces. We design the layout, install before guests arrive, and strike everything afterward, so you never touch a ladder. Event work is fully insured with liability and a $2M umbrella. Call (703) 951-5100 to check wedding venue string light availability for your date in Maryland, Virginia, or DC.

Do you install bistro and patio lighting for restaurants and venues?

Yes. Light DMV installs bistro and patio lighting for restaurants, bars, breweries, and event venues throughout the DMV, plus homeowners and one-time events. Commercial cafe lighting installation is built to run night after night on commercial-grade Edison bulb strings and stainless cable, and every commercial job is fully insured with liability and umbrella coverage. We serve Northern Virginia, the Maryland suburbs, and DC — from a single patio to a full courtyard or rooftop.

How far in advance should I book bistro or event lighting?

Book as early as you can. For permanent patio and backyard bistro installs in the DMV we can usually schedule within a few weeks, but spring and early-summer dates fill fast. For weddings and events, reserve one to three months ahead — peak wedding and holiday-party dates across Northern Virginia, Maryland, and DC go quickly. Call (703) 951-5100 with your address and date and we'll confirm availability and set up a free on-site measure.

What it is

The warm patio glow, done right

Bistro lighting is that overhead canopy of warm bulbs that turns a patio, deck, or backyard into a place people actually want to sit at night. We hang commercial-grade weatherproof bulbs from tensioned stainless cable, so the lines pull tight in a clean, even drape instead of the saggy, uneven look of a hardware-store kit.

It works over a homeowner's deck, a restaurant patio, or a wedding tent — and we do it both as a permanent year-round install and as event lighting we set up and take down around your date.

How it's built

Why ours stays tight when kits sag

A string-light kit from the store hangs off whatever's nearby and droops within a season. A professional install is a support system: aircraft-grade stainless cable, run between solid anchor points with turnbuckles and proper tension, with the bulbs hung from the cable. The result is a clean, even catenary curve that holds.

2" galvanized poles

Set on real footings or ground anchors built for DMV clay soil — solid attachment anywhere.

Stainless cable system

Aircraft-grade cable, turnbuckles, and thimbles, tensioned so the line never sags.

Weatherproof bulbs

Commercial-grade, shatter-resistant, rated for year-round outdoor use.

Clean power routing

Switched, with weatherproof connections — no orange cords across the yard.

How It Works

From first call to final glow — here's what to expect.

How a bistro install works

Your space, transformed.

Done — your home glows.

We had such a lovely experience with Light DMV this year. When we called, the team was very kind and helpful, explaining the process and options. Our house was the brightest on our block! The lights were taken down last week as a free part of their full service and we were so sad to see the lights go, but are excited for next year!

Christmas Light Installation · DC, MD & VA

Andrea L

Chris and Liam arrived promptly at our house to install our lights. They were well prepared and extremely professional. Within a few hours, our lights were ready. They gave me the mobile app along with a demo of how to select various colors and variations of lighting options. These lights have a 20 year life expectancy. They can be set for holidays, no more crawling up for Christmas!!
